Life After Life

Does such a thing exist?

Apologies for the delay in banging this one out. I’m sure you can understand that it takes a decent amount of time to get the brain back in gear after a wild weekend in Belvedere. Yop Westmeath!

We left Galway in torrential rain on Friday evening. Biblical stuff until we reached Athlone, the Equator of Ireland, where the sun was streaming down. Fake tan intact, we unpacked in Belvedere Gardens, threw up a tent and headed for the stages to catch the last 15 seconds of Eats Everything. Patrick Topping was up next. Mixed reviews on this one. Chatter on the campsite was that he wouldn’t mix cement but the District 8 tent was packed to capacity and everyone was groovin’. Alan Fitz took things up a level closing the stage and we stepped out halfway. We wandered to the Main Stage and our timing was perfect as we got there just in time to hear Format B banging out Chunky. Yurt. We wound up staying for DJ EZ who was fantastic in a really cheesy way. Think 6AM at a house party breaking into the Golden Oldies vault. If you put a gun to my head I’d be hard pushed to remember a single track but I know they were good because according to Fitbit I was bopping till the wee hours.

Saturday was filthy, both in terms of the music and the weather. It rained all day and all night and things got a little bit warpy. Looking at the videos on Tune Drop it looks like the stages were absolutely bopping, especially Boots and Kats on the Toast Stage and their dawn rave. The kept the crowd rocking as the sun came up, or at least attempted to, over the lake.

In a slight change to schedule, Ricardo Villalobos played in the District 8 Tent on account of the rain. He was immense but much better suited to a later time slot. It’s hard to give him 110% at 1PM in the day. Maya Jane, the Queen, delivered in spades down on the Mainstage and Get Down Edits were a very tasty addition to the day. Duke Dumont closed the Main Stage on Saturday, banging out all the big hits although we opted for the covered Index Stage instead.

Like I said, things got warpy. Tent, Saturday, Life 2017.

Sunday got off to an early start and an early finish with Nina Kravitz taking to the stage at around half 10. Sunday day disappeared Down the Rabbite Hole but the sun shone, the gazebo parties were hopping and the craic was had so, all in all, happy fucking days. Hard to believe how fast the weekend zipped by but congrats to all involved in delivering another stellar Life Fest! Festival season 2017 is off to a flying start and definitely looking forward to the next few weeks and months.

As the fella said, YOP WESTMEATH.
